| Prof.Dr. Eric Hamilton

Prof. Dr. Hamilton earned undergraduate
and master's degrees from the
University of Chicago and a doctorate
from Northwestern University.
Hamilton came to NSF in 1996,
on leave from Loyola University
of Chicago, where he was an Associate
Professor of Mathematical and
Computer Sciences. In his term
at NSF he has served as a Program
Director for the Division of Educational
System Reform and Interim Director
for the Division of Research,
Evaluation and Communication.

In Summer, 2003, Eric Hamilton took the post
of Deputy Director for the Air Force Institute
for Information Technology Applications at the
US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. In
this role he serves as Director for Learning
Technology and is an Associate Professor of
Computer Science at the Academy. Prior to moving
to Colorado, he served as Director for the Division
for Research, Evaluation and Communication in
the National Science Foundation's Directorate
for Education and Human Resources (EHR).
In addition to his program and division director
responsibilities at NSF, he was the agencyˇŻs
representative on the federal interagency team
that followed up the 1997 Presidential Committee
of Advisors in Science and Technology (PCAST)
report on K-12 educational technology. He has
had program oversight responsibilities for Collaborative
Research in Learning Technology, Knowledge and
Distributed Intelligence, and Technology Integration
in Education grants. He has been involved in
originating or advancing numerous bilateral
research and education collaborations with partners
in England, Germany, Mexico, and Japan, as well
as with various multilateral organizations.
He has developed interactive, pen-based networking
software for which he holds patents in the US,
Canada, France, Germany and the UK. This work
is currently licensed in Internet telephony
software and in educational and corporate training
and collaboration software, and is the focus
of papers relating to synchronous elearning
platforms.
